New Route - New Craic

This year's Puc Fada will be in memory of Padraig Fenton whose anniversary occurs at this time. Padraig was a huge part of Castlelyons GAA as he travelled to all our games for many years and ardently kept the score.  Ar dheis Dé go raibh a ainm dílis. In memory of Padraig all proceeds this year will go to Enable Ireland.

Therefore we make a special appeal as many girls, boys and adults come along and support this great cause. The morning is open to everyone from school going age to adults alike with teams of 4 to consist of 2 adults and 2 juveniles with an entry fee of €20 per team.

This year the Puc Fada will take a completely new route and the Juvenile Club are busy preparing the Event Plan, technical details and Stewarding.  This is a very exciting route and will start near the Pitch and Putt Club, taking a clockwise route, passing the graveyard on your right, turning right at Kill-St-Anne North crossroads and coming on to the main road at Spraoi Cross and then heading towards Castlelyons village with the finish line at the 1st speed bump.

Beating the slioter along this new Route will entail a lot of skill as one has to avoid belting of high stone walls, some soft briary ditches, over a bridge and before heading down the straight back to the village.  However, over the years on the old Route some teams have produced outstanding results with people not known for hurling skill but obviously cute and able to hold the head in battle.     

The 1st team will be off at 11am with registration taken on the morning. We will have a presentation of prizes in the Community Centre bar afterwards with free finger food where we would hope that everyone will attend. So shake off the cobwebs of Christmas and come out and support a great cause and have a bit of craic.
