Kilmagnier N.S.  make it through to Scór na bPaistí Uí Mac Coille Semi Finals

The quarter finals of Scór na bPaistí Imokilly took place this weekend in Lisgoold.  However, it was unfortunate that we had to abandon on Friday evening due to a power cut in the East Cork area.  Nevertheless, Quarter finals were held at 2 pm and 7pm on Saturday and 1 pm on Sunday.  The cancelled one will now be held again this Saturday night.

Kilmagnier N.S. representing Castlelyons Hurling took part on Saturday.  Ailbhe Ryan was first up with a lovely rendition of “The Bright Blue Rose” and qualified for the Semi Finals.  Then we had Isaac O Donovan Campbell, Ruth Gubbins, Nicole McCarthy, Gemma and Ailbhe Ryan in the Ballad Group section.  They qualified for the semi-finals with lovely renditions of “Transna na dTonta” and “The Sally Gardens”.  So congratulations to all and especially their teacher Ms Stephanie Howard who prepared them for the competition and gave great encouragement on the day.

Castlelyons N.S. representing Castlelyons Camogie Club took part on Sunday in a very tough group Quarter Final.  Amie O Connell sang a lovely song “Isle of Hope” and performed very well.  Then we had Charolette Kent with a great performance in the Recitation with her piece “The Wayfarer” (P.H Pearse).  Cian O Callaghan, Peter Greaney and Ava Hallihan took part in the Quiz and did so well.  However, in very tough competition in that particular group we did not get through.  Again, thanks so much to all concerned in their preparation especially to their teacher, Mr Nelius De Róiste.

New Munster Council Chairman

Congratulations to Gerry O Sullivan, Cloyne, who was elected Chairman of the Munster Council at the recent Munster Convention. Gerry hurled with Cloyne for over thirty years and won a few counties.

He retired after defeat in an Intermediate County final, aged 41 years.  He was Chairman of Cloyne for 16 years.

Diarmuid, current selector and Paudie are involved with the Cork hurlers and sure he could be presenting some Munster silver to Cloyne men during his term. (or maybe Donal Óg in the Banner).  Best wishes to Gerry, his wife Gearodine and family in his new position.

Intermediate Hurling Training.

Our Pitch remains closed due to the very bad weather and training is confined to the hall and a night on Astro Turf per week.  However, there is good commitment and many are involved in second and third level hurling.  Hopefully we will get in a challenge game before the start of the League.    

Fitzgibbon Cup Hurling.

UCC are back on track again in the Fitzgibbon with a big win over Maynooth University have another tough assignment versus LIT which will be known by time of print as its on Tuesday 9^th and this will decide quarter finalists.  Davy Fitzgerald manages LIT but UCC have a star studded county outfit and should advance.

Unfortunately, our men Colm and Anto Spillane are injured and not considered while Jack Barry continues as sub goalie for UCC.  Shane Moroney is now on the UCC Fresher’s team and this, no doubt, will benefit him as he has great potential.

Colm Barry, who has had great games with Mary I this year, is injured but may play a part in a vital game versus DIT.  Our corner forward Alan Fenton is playing with CIT Intermediate team and going well.

Imokilly Hurling.

Fergal Condon remains in charge again this year with his backroom freshened up as Derek Barrett, Cobh, Coach and Jimmy Smiddy, Castlemartyr, replaces Aidan Swayne, Fr O Neill’s joining Sean Harnedy, St ita’s and Kieran McGann, Castlelyons, as selectors.  

Imokilly had a good run last year winning three games before defeat to Sarsfields by four points.  There are a few extra players available this year it is hoped to go well again. 

With one challenge already cancelled due to weather conditions the next game will be against Cork Intermediate team on Monday 22.2.16 and a number of Castlelyons lads will feature.

A Day at the Races.

We will have our Tent at the Knockanard Point to Points as usual on Sunday 14^th February. 

We will have soup, sandwiches, teas and cakes. So call in and enjoy a little break before you watch your winner on the day. 

So enjoy pleasant service, good food and a great day at the Races in Knockanard.
