Our U15 Team take the East Cork Championship

On Saturday 26th our U15 panel wrote themselves into the history books, by winning the East Cork U15B competition. This completion is run off over the summer months on a league basis. Castlelyons and Castlemartyr qualified for the final which was held in Killeagh on Saturday afternoon last.

In front of large Castlelyons support we were first to register a point on the score board. We continued to apply pressure on the Castlemartyr defence and were unlucky for a number of goals except for some excellent goal keeping by our opposition. Our forwards continued to exert pressure and after some excellent team work and passages of play we added two more points. Castlemartyr were not to be out done and immediately followed with a goal to level the match. However, our girls were not down and attacked well to retake the lead with some fine points by our forwards. At the break Castlelyons led 0-8 to 1-0.

On resumption after the break Castlemartyr were first to score a point, but our backs quickly got to grips with the extra pressure and our forwards began to create the opportunities again. Mid way through the half Castlelyons registered our only goal and began to take control of the game. From here on in we dominated in all areas of the field and on the final whistle Castlelyons won out with the score 1-12 to 1-02.

Manager Mary McNulty keeps em goingNiamh O’Donovan (Captain) and Grainne McCarthy (Vice Captain) accepted the trophy on behalf of the panel from Vincent Cashman of the Imokilly Board. Great scenes of jubilation where seen as the trophy received a guided tour of the village in a convoy of cars from our jubilant captain.

The club would like to thank the parents who brought these girls to training, matches and supported them on the side line. Thanks for the teas and refreshments in the teen Cafe on our return, Mary Mc Nulty of Cheers for the minerals and crisps, Castlemartyr for the sporting match, Killeagh for providing the venue and the Mary Swane for refereeing the match. Finally we cannot forget the girls themselves, what a successful year the club has had this year with U13 and U15 trophies coming to the parish and our U12’s being beaten in the County Semi Final.  During the year the girls have trained hard and the results are now to be seen. From the club we want to thank each and every girl involved in these panels. Mighty days for Castlelyons

We wish to you that on October 11th the club will be hosting in conjunction with the Juvenile Boys a charity Blitz for Damian Ahern. All players will be informed by text of match times etc closer to the day by their respective managers.
