U 7’s and U 8’s

On Saturday morning the 28th March our U7 & U8 boys took to the fields of Ballyhooly for our first outing of the year.  We fielded two U8 teams and one U7 team with 29 boys representing Castlelyons.  As many of the boys were pulling on the green and gold of Castlelyons for the very first time, the excitement was palpable building up to the games. Our U7s took to the field and played three games against Fermoy, Araglen and Kilshannig and by the third game the boys were combining as a high performing unit. The future looks very bright indeed.

At U8 level we fielded two teams and both teams played 3 games against teams from Fermoy, Glanworth, Kilshannig and Kildorrery. All the boys played fantastically, more than holding their own and great fun was had by all. Thanks to all the boys who played and thanks to all the parents for bringing the boys, helping out on the sideline and cheering on the boys.

Our next outing is an U7/U8 hurling blitz in Carrigtwohill on Saturday. We continue to train every other Saturday at 10 am on the main pitch for ages U6 to U8. If you have a child (born 07, 08 or 09) who would like to get involved text Donal at 086-1743102 for details of training.

U13’s

On Easter Monday evening we travelled to Tracton outside Carrigaline. It was a lovely sunny evening for hurling. We were slow to get into the game and Tracton were leading in the first half by 1-6 to a goal for Castlelyons.

In the second half, we upped the pace and improved. We scored two goals in this half and were unlucky not to get a third in the final minute.  Tracton won on a score of 1-8 to Castlelyons 3-0.

Panel:  C. McCarthy, D. Geary, J. Cullnane, W. Moran, D. Morrison, L. Doocey (Capt.), S. Casey, D. Spillane, G. O’Neill, O. Hallihan, I. O’Sullivan, E. Lenehan, O. Dolan, A. Moran.

U14’s

On Saturday last our boys competed in Feile hurling in Youghal. On the day we only played 2 matches as another team pulled out of the competition on the night before. On the day we had 15 players for this 15 a side event. Our first match was against Kilara Og who gave us a bit of a hiding in the football Feile so the lads had something to prove.

This they did in some great fashion winning the games with a good few scores to spare. After a break of an hour we then took on Youghal in their home pitch. This was a daunting task with a lot of the Youghal team on the age. Our lads held their own in the 1st half and went in a point down. The wind changed direction during half time and our lads were playing into a strong breeze for the 2nd half and could not halt Youghal. In the end we lost out by a few goals. Best of luck to Youghal to in the B final.

Panel: C. McCarthy, W. Moran, P. Hegarty, D. Geary, K. McCarthy, J. Kenny, M. O’Sullivan, S. Cotter, S. Casey, D. Morrison, J. Kearney, R. Morrison, D. Spillane, G. O’Neill, I.G Quinn.

Our next hurling league match took place last night in Passage with a report to follow next week.
