League Win for U16 Footballers

U10 Hurling

On Saturday March 21st our U10 team took part in the Ballyduff Upper “Owen Geary U10 Annual Indoor Hurling Blitz”.  First out we played Cappoquin and came out on top with a scoreline of 3-1.  We then played Lismore B team and we also came through on the winning side in this game with a score of 6-2.

U10 Hurlers - Ballyduff BlitzThis saw us through to the semi-final of the Blitz against a good Lismore A team but credit to our boys they were getting better with every game and we came out on top with a score of 4-1 in a very entertaining semi-final.

We faced a very strong Ballyduff side in the final but the Castlelyons boys held themselves very well in this game but it wasn’t to be, losing the final on a score of 3-0.  We want to thank Ballyduff Upper for the invitation and hospitality.  We look forward to this every year as it kick starts the U10’s season. Well Done Boys!!!

U16 Rebel Óg East Football League: - Castlelyons 3-14, St. Catherines 1-05

Last Wednesday night our U16 Footballers played St Catherines in the 3rd round of the U16 Football League. On a cold but calm night both teams played some excellent football in what was a very free flowing and sporting encounter.  Castlelyons lads played some fine football in the first half where we had goals from Mark Spillane, James Kearney and Barry Murphy. In addition we had points form Ian Riordan (2), Mark Spillane, Barry Murphy and Jack Kenny.

St. Catherines scored 3 points in this half but in truth the scoreline wasn't a fair reflection on the effort St Catherines put in as they had several narrow wides also in this half.

The second half saw a few positional and personnel changes on both sides and the first 15 minutes of this half saw some great end to end football from both teams, with some excellent scoring.  Castlelyons lads were probably that bit more accurate in front of goals and in the second half we had points from the following players Jack Kenny (3), James Kearney, Peter Roche, Barry Murphy, Conor McCarthy, Jack Ronayne and Brian O Mahony.

Overall a very entertaining game of football with both sides trying their hardest and a game that our men deservedly won after an excellent hours football.

Panel:  John Paul Murphy, Shane Flynn, Michael Buckley, Redmond Walsh,   Peter Roche, Seamus Moroney, Ian Riordan,  Pearse Varner , Jack Ronayne,  Jack Kenny, Barry Murphy, Conor McCarthy, James McCarthy , Mark Spillane, James Kearney, David Morrison, Eoin O Neill, Gavin O Neill Brian O Mahony.

Well done to our Under 21 Footballers on winning the East Cork Final on Friday night last against Castlegoold.
