U12

Our U12’s travelled to Caherlag last Saturday for their first blitz of the season. They played 3 games against the hosts Erin's Own, St. Fanahans & Youghal. It was a fine performance from each of our 13 girls who played. All matches were played with much improved skill & determination & each game was exciting & enjoyable. As this was a non-competitive blitz no scores were taken on the day, but our girls were very happy coming home with their performance & are looking forward to the league. Thanks to Erin's own for hosting the blitz & to Aoife Beausang who was a ref on the day.

Panel: - Niamh Colman, Aeibhin Casey, Erin Mullen, Lucy McNulty, Aine Ni Maoilin, Anna Rosner, Ava Quirke, Alison Dooley, Ava Hallihan, Jessie O'Leary, Leah Hallihan, Olivia Beausang & Avril Beirne. Training continues Tuesday nights from 7-8pm in the Astro Turf.

Upcoming Match Fixtures: - Saturday, March 28th @ 1 pm, Castlelyons v St. Fanahans in Ballygiblin; April 11th, Castlelyons v Cobh at home; April 25th, Castlelyons v Youghal in Youghal

U14

On Friday 20th March we played our first league game against Blackrock, this was a great experience for many of the team as it was their first time playing on the main pitch under lights. Blackrock proved to be too strong for our girls on the night, with an older more balanced side. Great spirit and commitment was shown by all the players but unfortunately we did not win on this occasion. Training continues this week for the panel with an away league match to Erin's Own scheduled for the following week: details will be made available once confirmed.

  Panel: - A. Hallihan, A. Nimunichain, E.Boyd, O.Sheehan, A.Quirke, L,Crowley, K Coleman, S.Morrisson, N.Coleman, D.Coleman, N.McCarthy, S.Mullen. A Rosner, L.McNulty, J.O'Leary, L. Halliham, A.Quirke, A.Casey, R.Mac.

We would also like to wish Sarah and Nodhlaig the best of luck on being selected for further trials for the Cork Primary Schools squad.

U18

Clonakilty/St. Colum’s were the opposition for the first minor match of the year on Sunday last the 22nd March. This was a league game played on a beautiful spring afternoon in Clonakilty. The format of the league is thirteen aside and we had thirteen ready and eager girls up for the challenge. Clonakilty/ St. Colum’s proved to be formidable opposition with most of their players on the age and some representing the county. That age old cliché of a game of two halves applied. Clonakilty/St Colum’s started the better and commanded the scores in the first half.

Under 12 PanelFavoured by the conditions on the change of ends and pep talk from trainer James O Neill the girls were coming much more into it in the second half scoring a goal and 2 points in quick succession. We commanded the scores in this half with another goal and two further points. However as time came against us Clonakilty/St. Colum’s ran out winners. It’s early days yet and the first match is always difficult. Great spirit and commitment was shown by all the players. Well done to our goalie, Niamh O’Donovan, for a great performance between the sticks and to all her defenders for keeping St Colum’s at bay.

Special mention must go to the parents and supporters who travelled, in particular Paddy and Mark for their praise and encouragement of the girls. All in all, a very pleasing performance for James and Niamh. Training continues this week for the panel with a league match versus St.Vincent’s scheduled for Saturday 11.30am at home in the main pitch.

Panel: - Deirdre Barry, Anna Greaney, Leah Kearney, Rachel Murphy, Sarah Murphy, Cáit McCarthy, Grainne McCarthy, Aisling Nolan, Emily Nolan, Amy O’Callagahan, Niamh O’Donovan, Billie Shanahan and Mary Walsh. Absent Aoife Beausang.

We would also like to congratulate Aoife, Amy and Cáit on being selected for the minor Imokilly squad. Similarly, congratulations goes to Anna, Billie and Gráinne on their selection for the Imokilly U16 team.

Juniors

Our junior girls continue with their weekly training with good numbers turning up –there are 26 on the panel. This team have matches on the 4th April at home v Ballinora and on the 11th of April away to Kildorrery.

St Patricks Day

Camogie Girls on St Patrick's Day 2015On St Patrick’s Day the camogie club walked in this year’s parade in Fermoy – on what was a lovely spring day we had a great turnout of both young and old girls and their mentors and parents. Everyone enjoyed the lovely day and great atmosphere. Well done to the Organisers of the parade and thanks again to everybody who participated. The girls all went home with a smile on their faces and an Easter Egg under their arm for taking part!!

Monthly Meeting Tuesday 14th April, 2015

The next monthly meeting for the Camogie club will take part on Tuesday the 14th April at 9 pm in the Community Centre with all welcome to attend. We would remind all managers that everyone who helps out at training and matches has to be Garda Vetted with forms available from our secretary – when forms are filled out please return them to the secretary.

In the coming months we will be organising fundraising events for the Camogie club varying from Flag days, church gate collection, bake sales, Monster Blitzs, etc. We would hope that, as always, all events will be well supported.

We would like to extend our sympathies to the Barry family, the Ahern family and the Hegarty family on their recent bereavements.
