Football

Junior Football Training at 7pm on Saturday 25th November, 2014.  We are in the East Cork Junior B Football Championship 2014 Semi Final and the Michael Boig Coleman Cup awaiting the winners of possibly Youghal and Carrignavar.

Both Russell Rovers and Bride Rovers who had big wins in the earlier rounds play the quarter final at the week end and Bride rovers could yet make it to the semi finals – all in all it looks an interesting finale and we must be ready.

The Munster Club Junior B Football Championship Munster hosted this year by the Knockaderry club in Limerick will be commencing shortly and as we wait our first round so it is vital to remain focused on training.

Hurling

A Players Meeting will be held at 8.30 pm on Saturday 25th November, 2014 in the Community Centre.  It is intended to seek views on the playing season with a view to improving our performance for 2015.  Hurling can be like life and the seanfhocal is worth noting here “ní bhíonn rath, ach mara mbíonn an smacht”.  There are many teams making a huge effort now so we need to really commit and with a discipline ethos and belief to succeed.

We must agree that although we did not make the Premier Intermediate Final we did draw with the eventual champions Ballyhea.  They took us in the replay reasonably convincingly but not after a dour struggle for a while.  On the day we were missing key players through injury namely Ciarán McGann, Ronan Bransfield and Phillip Mahon.  There were others with niggling injuries which prevented players from reaching their potential on the day.

All Ireland Champions Colm & Anthony Spillane and Colm BarryHowever, it was a year of great honour for the Castlelyons Club as we had three players, namely Colm Barry, Colm and Anthony Spillane, who played very well on the Cork U21 Hurling team that surprised a fancied Waterford outfit in the Championship.  While Cork were well beaten in the Munster Final in Ennis by Clare this Banner outfit were going for three All Irelands in a row and their fourth in five years in a golden era of Clare hurling.  There was no disgrace as the Banner men went on to win the All Ireland.

Despite the U21 defeat our three Clubmen were again selected for the Cork Intermediate Team and went on to win a Munster title.  Cork made it to the All Ireland Final defeating a strong Galway team along the way. The final against Wexford was a humdinger with Cork coming out on top towards the end by six points.  Our Castlelyons men were excellent along the way and in the Final as they pocketed three All Ireland medals.  What and honour for the lads, their families and CLCG Caisleán Uí Liatháin.
