Castlelyons GAA Notes WE Monday 31.12.18. 2019-01-02 14:32:00

Puc Fada an outstanding success.

The Juvenile GAA Committee held the annual Puck Fada at 11a.m. on St Stephens morning. This year’s one was an outstanding success with thirty-seven teams taking part two more than last year and the biggest ever. The Corrin Celts team of Paul O Brien, Toran O Brien, Ciaran McGann and Ciaran (Jnr) McGann were overall winners. They were presented with Cummins Sports Vouchers by juvenile chairman Declan Spillane back in the clubhouse bar. There were refreshments provided by the girls in the bar and the weekly lotto for a jackpot of €14,600 was be held with plenty of craic as the number seventeen was first out to some roars but when eighteen was drawn next there was a lull and so the jackpot survived the Christmas. Thanks to the juvenile committee, stewards, bar staff and lotto committee on a great morning’s entertainment.

Club Lotto Jackpot now €14,800.

Our weekly club lotto draw was held in the Clubhouse Bar on Monday 17th December and the numbers drawn were 17, 18, 25 and 27. There was no winner. There were eight Lucky Dip winners were as follows: - M Tobin, B Murphy, F Curley, S Whelan, Murphys, B Sice, M Murphy and B O’Sullivan.

Next week’s draw will be held on Monday 7th at 9.30 pm in the Abbey Bar. The Jackpot is now €14,800. We would ask all patrons and especially those in the Adult, Juvenile and Camogie Clubs to support our Club Lotto. The results of the Club Lotto are published each week on both the Avondhu and social media.

Niall O Leary on Cork senior hurling panel.

One of our star hurlers Niall O Leary has been called onto the Cork senior hurling panel for the Co-op Superstores Munster senior hurling league. They played Clare in Ennis last Saturday and both fielded basic send teams. Cork started well and lead by six points at half time, but the Banner hauled them back to win on a score 1-21 to 0-22. Niall did not get any game time and surprisingly were only two subs introduced by Cork towards the end on the 63rd and 71st minutes. In contrast Clare used four subs. Incidentally, Imokilly and Fr O Neills star put in a great hour Declan Dalton scoring 0-10 (7f, 2 ‘65’s, 1 sl) and this despite an injury towards half time. Clare had some great young hurlers in Ryan Taylor, Diarmuid Ryan and Gary Cooney but mark down Cork’s Conor Cahalane, Tim O Mahony and Michael O Halloran as men of the future too. Cork now play Waterford on Wednesday night in Mallow at 7.30pm in the next round.

Harty Cup Quarter Finals on Wednesday 9th January.

St Colman’s Fermoy take on De La Salle Waterford in the Dr. Harty Cup Quarter final on this coming Wednesday. Castlelyons men David Morrison, James Kearney and Leon Doocey have all received game time in recent games and we have Peter Roche, Jack Kenny, Shane Flynn and Eoin O Neill on the panel also. Overall St Colman’s have some very strong hurlers including the Roche twins, Bride Rovers, the Lardner twins, Fermoy and Eoin Carey, Kilworth and we wish them the best.

Next GAA Committee Tuesday 8th January at 8pm.

The next meeting of the Committee will be held on Tuesday 8th January at 8 pm. It is hoped that team Managers will be selected by then. There are a lot of important matters for discussion and hopefully we will have a good number of committee present.
