Castlelyons GAA Notes week ended 17.4.17 2017-04-19 17:30:00

Bride Rovers defeat Castlelyons in Mossie O Sullivan Cup game.

Bride Rovers 2-15 Castlelyons 0-15

Bride Rovers made the short journey to Pairc an tAthair Peadar Ó Laoghaire for the East Cork Junior Hurling League Division 2 game to play Castlelyons and came away with a facile victory in the end. The game was refereed in good conditions by Arthur Murphy and Castlelyons played with the breeze in the first half. We lined out with a strong team and done very well with Darragh Lawlor putting over 0-2 from play Darren Tobin in great form at midfield and scoring a few points from frees. Jamie O leary was doing well in the backs and scored from play also. But the Rovers, who field three hurling teams, do not lie down easily and one of their midfielders made two great runs laying off the ball to the full forward line and this yielded two goals for them. As a result, we only led by the minimum at half time 0-11 to 2-4.

Bride Rovers with many experienced former senior players displayed all their skills and, indeed, fitness in the second half as they dominated the hurling and went on to win by 2-15 to our 0-15. Bride Rovers are top of the table with two points from this one game played. It was a little disappointing for us as we had a strong team out but overall it was a start in the League. Nevertheless, we made a great effort and we have eight games left. We should try to play these games as times passes on and it is difficult to pick them up at the end of the season. The players are available as we had great success in the last two years at minor level and a good second team is the life blood of the club.

Team: - John Paul Murphy, Noel McAuliffe, Declan Varner, Mark Murphy, Colm O Neill, Jamie O Leary, Shane Fenton, Brian O Donovan, Darren Tobin, Ronan Bransfield, Darragh Lawlor, Ronan Fenton, Alan O Regan, Michael John Dorgan, Ronan O Regan. Subs: - Mike Hegarty for Alan O Regan, Shane Moroney for Ml John Dorgan, Andrew O Neill for Ronan O Regan, Michael Geary for Mark Murphy and Will Daly.

Castlelyons Intermediate Team prepare for championship.

On Saturday 22.4.17 we play Valley Rovers away in Brinny in our last League game before the championship. Now we got a right hammering off Valley Rovers in the League last year on the score of 1-10 to 3-19 and it is imperative that we improve on that display. We do have some injuries but hopefully we will go strong and get into championship mode as Kanturk will provide stiff opposition in two weeks’ time and more about that later.
