Castlelyons continue Preparation for Intermediate Hurling Championship.

Castlelyons 0-23 Douglas 3-9.

Castlelyons travelled to Douglas on Thursday evening to take on their seniors in a challenge that proved valuable to our lads.  Douglas did not have any of their marquee players but then again we were missing Ronan Bransfield and Cian O Leary due to holidays, Niall and Jamie O Leary due to injury and others.  Also Douglas have an excellent club and numbers to match as they now field an Intermediate team as well.  We lined out strong but suffered the loss of Colm Barry after eight minutes as he jarred his knee and Eoin Maye after sixteen minutes as he suffered a reoccurrence of ligament injury.  The lads were replaced by Keith O Leary and Ronan Fenton, and both did very well. The team was changed about a bit as Tom Carroll went in full back with Ciarán McGann going centre back and Robbie Feeney back to the half back line where Robbie had a mighty game.  We were down 2-5 to 0-9 at half time.

However, in the second half we scored some great points as the forwards were razor sharp.  I suppose if one was to look at an area for improvement it is that we created three clear goal chances and failed to convert any of them so this is an area we must improve on if we are to have a realistic chance against Ballinhassig in the championship.  Of course, at the other end Douglas belted in three goals so we must put up the barriers here.  We have areas for improvement but the signs are very positive.  We closed out the game with a victory on the score Castlelyons 0-23 Douglas 3-9.  Our next game is in the Division 2 League away to the ‘Hill who are going well too and there will be interesting match ups as we attempt to deal with the ‘Hill stars in Kevin O Neill, Shane O Regan, Sean O Callaghan and Denis O Farrell.  This game is down for 7 pm in Watergrasshill so your support would be appreciated as it is our last game before the Championship versus Ballinhassig.

Imokilly v Douglas in Senior Hurling Championship.

This game is now postponed due to the involvement of players from Douglas with the Cork senior football panel in the All Ireland Qualifiers Series.  There was a mention of the new date being the 6^th August but sure if Cork make it to the All-Ireland Football Final it could be late September before the game would be played but what a celebratory time that would be for Cork and the upward surge Cork fans crave.  Imokilly continue to prepare there was a great turnout for training in Cobh on Monday evening and for our challenge game v Tallow the previous Monday evening.  Our own Tom Carroll and Colm Barry are going well and Aidan O Sullivan is recovering from injury and as the panel is a fluid one if we continue with good results in the PIHC we could have more Castlelyons men on the panel.

Good win for Castlelyons Minor Hurlers.

Castlelyons 2-16 Ballygarvan 0-16

Congrats and well done to Castlelyons who had a good win over Ballygarvan in the Rebel Óg East Cork U18 A Grade Competition.  This was a difficult assignment as our lads had to take em on away in Ballygarvan.  We got two early goals to put us on our way but had to keep up the pressure as Ballygarvan hurled well in stages.  We now play the semi-final on the 24.8.16 versus Kiltha Óg while St Catherines and Sliabh Rua are in the other semi-final on the same date.  What a game it would be between St Catherines and ourselves but this is only speculation so the best of luck to our lads in their preparations.

Hosting County Championship Games.

We hosted two county championship games in our Pitch at the weekend in both Junior B and Intermediate football.  The crowds were good and our stewards did an excellent job.  Well done to all concerned.

Léiriú (Stage Presentation) and Recitation/Storytelling.

Cumann Lúthchleas Gael (GAA) through its cultural branches, Coiste Náisiúnta Scór and Coiste Náisiúnta na Gaeilge is holding an open competition for newly composed original scripts, which would be available to clubs for performance in Léiriú Stáitse and Aithriseoreacht/Recitation for any performer taking part in Scór competitions.   The competition details are as follows: -

Script for Léiriú Stáitse: -  Léiriú Stáitse is a stage presentation with a theme based on an aspect of Irish life, culture or folklore (including GAA).   It would be a dramatic presentation in serious or comic form, of not more than 10 minutes’ duration, and which would be performed by groups of at least 3 and not more than 8 people.   Simple props may be used.

1^st Prize - €500; 2^nd Prize - €300

Aithriseoireacht / Scéalaíocht – Recitation / Storytelling: - This competition is for a solo performer and it takes entries in the form of recitations, monologues, poems and stories relating to Ireland (including GAA), its history, local folklore, people or places.  Each piece to be of not more than six minutes’ duration.

1^st Prize - €500; 2^nd Prize - €300

The script writing competition is open to all.   Fáilteofar roimh iontrálaithe as Gaeilge agus cuirfear duais speisialta de €200 don Léiriú / Aithriseoireacht Gaeilge is fearr muna mbíonn ceann i nGaeilge sa céad nó sa dara áit.

Prizes will be presented to the winning entries by Aogán Ó Fearghail, Uachtarán Chumann Lúthchleas Gael, at Páirc an Chrócaigh, on a date to be announced.   All the Scripts entered will be made available to GAA Clubs in Book Form for use in Scór competitions.   Though Scripts are freely available to Clubs, this will not prevent the author from using the work in another Forum should he/she wish to do so.   The author will be acknowledged in any performance.  Entries should be sent by email to scor@gaa.ie on or before the closing date of 11 February, 2017.  

Weekly Lotto Draw - Monday 18.7.16

Our Weekly Lotto Draw was held in the Community Centre tonight 18th July, 2016.  The numbers drawn were 5, 14, 21 and 22.  There was no winner.  The eight Lucky Dip Winners of €20 each were as follows: -  William McGrath. Eamon McCarthy. Martina Minihane.  Joe Hartnett.  Tom McAuliffe.  Jimmy O Sullivan.  James Moroney. Alan Waters.

Vote of Sympathy.

We wish to extend our sympathies to the family and relatives of the late Dave Hoare, Conna and his beloved St Catherines, also, Postman for a strong part of our Parish, who recently passed to his eternal reward.  Dave was an outstanding individual who gave mighty service to Cumann Lúth-Chleas. Forthright in his views, he was totally committed to the Association and its ideals.  A brother of the late Dan Hoare who was also deeply involved in administration of Cumann Lúth-Chleas Gael as he had been treasurer of both Cork County Board and Munster Council. Dave had been very much involved the East Cork Board and Scór for many years. Dave and Dan were unique men in CLCG.  Ní beidh a leitheidí ann arís.  Ar dheis Dé go raibh a ainmneacha dhilís.
