 U10 Camogie Notes

The U10 team played their first “Go Game” of the year vs Cobh in Cobh. After a very entertaining game Cobh came out on top. Well done to all girls involved.

U14 Camogie Notes

On Saturday 21st May, we travelled to Dungarvan to play in a pre-Feile invitation blitz. We were grouped with teams from Tramore, Abbeyside, Slieverue (Kilkenny) and Dungarvan. The day proved very enjoyable with the girls availing of the sunny conditions to truly show their talents off. Castlelyons played three matches and won all their matches. We would like to thank the organisers for inviting us, the parents who drove and also the girls for their commitment and the entertainment they gave us.

Panel on the day. Leah Hallahan, Niamh Coleman, Lauren Crowley, Deidre Coleman, Abbie Quirke, Nodhlaig McCarthy, Avril Beirne, Olivia Sheehan, Aine Ni Mhaolain, Lucy McNulty, Sarah Morrison, Anna Rossner, Ava Hallahan, Shauna Mullen, Jessie O’Leary, Olivia Beausang, Ava Quirke & Nadia Ziolkowski, We played our third league game on Monday 23rd at home to St Fanahan’s. Castlelyons took control of the fixture early in the match and played probably some of their best hurling to date. At the end Castlelyons ran out comfortable winners but on the playing pitch the match was very even and a hard fought battle. Credit to our opponents they fought to the very end and showed great commitment and dedication to their cause. We would like to thank St Fanahan’s on their sporting battle and wish them the best in their remaining league games and season.

Panel on the night. Leah Hallahan, Niamh Coleman, Deidre Coleman, Abbie Quirke, Nodhlaig McCarthy, Avril Beirne, Olivia Sheehan, Aine Ni Mhaolain, Lucy McNulty, Anna Rossner, Ava Hallahan, Nadia Ziolkowski, Shauna Mullen, Olivia Beausang, Aibhinn Casey, Erin Mullen, and Ava Quirke. We will be taking a break for a week or two from training and matches with exams and study taking priority. Further fixtures and training will be notified by text, remember keep practicing at home.

Junior’s Reach League final

In front of a large group of supporters, on beautiful pitch conditions, in Castlelyons on Saturday evening last we kept our winning streak and confirmed our place in the league final after a thrilling encounter with Na Piarsaigh. From the whistle both teams came out the traps on a high tempo, which continued right throughout.  With players battling hard for possession it was fifteen minutes before any team register a score, a free from Melissa O Sullivan. Castlelyons found their rhythm and Na Piarsaigh suffered a further blow, when Melissa scored an unstoppable shot from a penalty raising the first green flag of the game. Points from Maria Daly and Aibhin O Sullivan closed out the first half, leaving the score at the break Castlelyons 1.03 Na Piarsaigh 0.03. On resumption Castlelyons started the better. We drove on from the first half but as expected from Na Piarsaigh, they weren’t going down without a fight, and having the run of play found the back of the net twice. However, luckily for us their first goal was deemed a square ball. Once again Castlelyons dug deep and with some excellent defending we somehow managed to halt the attack. At this stage of the game it was all shoulders to the wheel and when a free came our way it was with great foresight and bravery that Melissa O Sullivan had the courage to put the ball in the Na Piarsaigh net. The last few minutes were nail biting with all players being called upon to wear their jerseys with pride and close out the victory. It was with huge relief that Referee Dominic Rooney blow the final whistle and we ran out winners Castlelyons 2.03 Na Piarsaigh 1.04. We will be meeting the winners of Mallow V Ballinora in the final at Cork Camogie grounds in Castle Road Mahon with day and time tbc. Team; Nicole Barry, Deirdre Barry, Aine O Brien, Shannon O Sullivan, Niamh Barry, Melissa O Sullivan, Louise McGann, Michelle Hartnett, Maire Therese Murphy, Aibhin O Sullivan, Isabelle Fenton, Clodagh Flynn, Teresa O Connor, Emily Sexton, Aisling Hartnett subs used Maria Daly, Megan McNulty. Huge credit must go to trainers Joe Hartnett and Ger McCarthy for the amount of work and time they have given to this team so far this year and we which them all the best in the final.
