Castlelyons Juvenile GAA Club Notes: 05.05.2016

Club Recycling Imitative;

The Juvenile club are currently taking in old helmets and hurleys, and re-using them in the local schools for training purposes. This is a great initiative and helps players get a taste for the game, without having a large outlay from the start. If you have any old hurleys or helmets that you no longer use at home, why not bring them along to training and managers will take them from there. We would encourage all families to support this new initiative.

Sciath Na Scol;

Well done to the Castlelyons Boys who are participating this week in the Sciath Na Scol Matches. They played Inch yesterday, Wednesday May 4th and came out victorious with a scoreline of Castlelyons 2-05 Inch 2-03.

They play again today, and we wish them the best of luck.

Confirmations;

We would like to wish all our players a lovely Confirmation day on Thursday May 12th next.

Imokilly;

Castlelyons will take on Imokilly this Sunday night, May 8th, as part of the 1916 Commemoration celebrations in Castlelyons. The celebrations are scheduled to start at 5.30 with some pre-match displays and flag bearing. Some of our younger players will take to the field during the break to display some of their hurling skills and we would encourage everyone to come down and support the team on the night. There will also be some GAA memorabilia on display in the Community Centre. A great way to kick of the 1916 Commemoration in Castlelyons,  Be part of it!!!

U7/U8;

Our U7 & U8’s travelled to Ballynoe last Saturday, and took on St Catherine’s in both hurling and football. The lads have been training away for the past couple of weeks and had a great morning for the matches. They played very well and enjoyed the games.

Thank you to all the parents that supported on the morning and we look forward to plenty more in the coming weeks.

U9/U10;

Last Saturday our boys played a home challenge against Bride Rovers and there was great improvement shown by lads from their previous outing. The U10s put in a great display of hooking and blocking in a very even contest. Tom O'Neill was magnificent in defence, greatly assisted by the tenacious duo of Olan Lenehan and Jack Cremin in midfield and the goal poacher Eoin McMurtry. The full U10 panel who played so well on the day were; Kevin Barry, Patrick Dooley, David Hegarty, Tom O'Neill, Olan Lenehan, Jack Cremin, Richard Barry, Ruairi Counihan and Eoin McMurtry.

 Our U9s were also in action V Bride Rovers and also did very well.  For Ewan Long it was his first match for Castlelyons and he played a tremendous game. There were some great scores taken especially a goal from Torin O'Brien from his own goal line. The U9 Panel on the day was Torin O'Brien, Luke Morrison, Jack Reals, Dylan Leetch,  Jack Burke, Rory Condon, Cathal Sheehan, Sean O'Callaghan, Shane Hussey and Ewan Long.

Training continues every Wed 7-8pm and Sat 10-11 am. Any blitzes/ matches will be advised by text to the parents.

U16;

Our U16’s are continuing well in the league this year. They are training weekly under Mark O Flynn and James O Neill and progressing very well. They played Ballygiblin on Tuesday night last at home, with no score reported at the time of going to press but with the dedication and commitment being shown to date, we’re sure they will do very well this season.

U14 Feile (Hurling)

Good luck to our U14 hurlers who will head off to Ballynoe on Saturday morning to take on 3 other teams in the qualifiers.

Lotto;

Our own lotto stands at a massive €8,800. Tickets can be purchased in the Glanbia Co-op, Castlelyons Post Office and from the usual ticket sellers and promoters. Remember, if you’re not in, you can’t win.
