Paul wins the Club Lotto Jackpot of â¬13,000
Paul O Sullivan was the lucky winner of our Clubâs Lotto Jackpot of â¬13,000 drawn on Monday night in Farrierâs Bar Coolagown. Paul's winning numbers were 1, 3, 9, and 21. Everyone in the club congratulates Paul and hope he enjoys spending it and with Christmas coming the timing of the win was perfect.
Paul a former star with our Club and featuring on the first Castlelyons team to win a county 25 years ago when we defeated Whitechurch in the County Junior B Football Championship and these days working with Fermoy Ladies Football and enjoying a lot of success as his daughters Mollie and Coleen are members of the teams and doing very well.
However, in true supportive spirit Paul has not forgotten his roots and contributes handsomely to our Lotto each week.
Castlelyons Third Level Students end the year well.
Congratulations to our own Jack Barry who had an excellent game in the Higher Education Hurling League Division 1 for UCC recently. Jack was the net minder in a strong UCC outfit that saw off a dogged University of Limerick in a thriller on a score 4-15 to 4-11. He stopped a few right raspers and his ability to find players on the puck out were a feature of the game that even drew the attention of the opposition trainer, the great Davy Fitzgerald
There was no such luck for Anthony Spillane who lined out at corner forward for UCC against Carlow IT in the Independent .IE GAA Higher Education Senior Hurling League Division 1 Final. The Ger Cunningham trained UCC side were surprisingly beaten on a score of 3-21 to 1-18 by the Carlow IT side who were managed by the Kilkenny legend D J Carey and current Kilkenny selector Mick Dempsey (the should be some crack in Leinster in 2015).
However, our own Anthony Spillane had a good game and scored one point with limited possession. He lined out in a full forward line that had Clare hat trick hero Shane O Donnell at full and Fermoyâs David Geary in the other corner. He got a full game which will stand to him for the Championship later. Of course, Colm Spillane who is still out injured would have been a welcome to the UCC side and should be rearing to go come the championship later.
This was Carlowâs first hurling league title in their history and were only promoted to the top tier of third level in 2010/11 to so well done to D J Carey who is making a outstanding contribution to hurling since his retirement.
Colm Barry, a student of Mary I, Limerick and Anthony Spillane are currently on the Cork Senior Panel who are undergoing a special training programme. Early days yet we might see the lads getting a run out in the Waterford Crystal tournament early in the New Year. So we wish the lads the best in their endeavours.
We must take a look at our club players in the secondary schools games next week as I believe many players went well.
Lotto Luck in Coolagown
They say travel the extra bit of road and you will meet less traffic but if you go to the Farrierâs Bar in picturesque Coolagown you are at the end of the Rainbow.
In just the last five years the Castlelyons GAA Lotto has been drawn out six times in the Farrierâs Bar with total winnings of over â¬76,000. The Jovial proprietors Paddy Ryan and Maureen McNally believe itâs Tipperary and Antrim luck although Paddy (who sells a share tickets) has to talk up Cork and neighbours Waterford for the finals with the odd Clare shout as was born only a stone's throw from the Banner.
Next weekâs Jackpot
Is back in the Farriers again and start at â¬2,000 and the club encourages everyone to continue to support the club lotto. Who knows âit could be you ". The draw is on again next week up in Coolagown who know it could be Santa all the way again as itâs such a luck spot up there Paddy could pull out your number so be sure to play for â¬2
County Convention
All playing activities have now finished for the year with the last event being the County Convention which will be held next week end. We wish Ger Lane of Bride Rovers best of luck as he takes up the role County Chairman and to Kieran McGann as he continues in the position of Irish/Cultural Officer of the Cork County Board.
The draw for next yearâs championships will also take place at the County Convention and with many neighbouring clubs involved in the Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship there is massive interest already.
Puc Fada
On St Stephen's morning the juvenile club will hold their annual Puc Fada. This year it is being held in aid of Enable Ireland in memory of Padraig Fenton whose anniversary occurs at this time. This is a great opportunity to get out for some exercise and support a very worthwhile cause.
Castlelyons Community Centre Concert
The Community Centre Committee are holding a concert on this Friday night at 8 pm with the Gospel Choir and Local Artists and a few pints and sing song afterwards in the Bar. Tickets at a â¬10 so please come and support.
Votes of Sympathy
The club extends sympathy to the O Regan Family, Britway and the Waters Family Coolagown and to the Feeney, Lenehan, Mulcahy, Lawlor, Hennessy, Walsh, and O'Keeffe Families on their recent bereavements.
