Ballyhea in Quarter Final of PIHC 2014-07-21 18:35:00

A Tough One

We are drawn against Ballyhea in the Quarter Final of the PIHC, a formidable outfit with a peerless tradition.  It is expected that the game will be played on the weekend of the 24th August with venue and time TBA shortly.

Cian O Leary a man for the Green and Gold.Back in March of this year we played and got a bit of a lesson from them in the League on a score of 4 – 15 to 3 – 12.  They are now top of the League while our form has slumped a bit and we are down in points to date.   When we met in the League back in 2012 it was a draw at 1 – 12 apiece.

Of course, we met back in June 2003 when both Clubs were Senior in a Championship game in Mitchelstown and it was a cracker with Ballyhea winning that one on a score Ballyhea 3 – 14 to Castlelyons 1 – 18.  Both teams had a lot of heroes that day but 19 years old Daniel Carroll stud out for Castlelyons as he scored three points from play.  We lost Daniel to the hurling shortly after through illness but thankfully he recovered and is now a loyal supporter.

Castlelyons had a great run in 2013 defeating Ballincollig, Newcestown, and Watergrasshill before that heart wrenching defeat to Youghal in the County Final.  Ballyhea were defeated by both Carrigaline and Kilworth in close championship games in last year.

All history now and no doubt with Ballyhea’s  great song and tradition, a club as old as the GAA itself, winners of Senior and almost every grade of Cork championship and, of course, their great current League form (top of the League) they will be favorites for this one.   But there is that famous tune ‘The Humours of Castlelyons’ and if our lads strike form they can dance with the best of them as they have shown many times in the past.

We wish Con Lawlor, John Boylan and Ger McCarthy and all our players the best of luck as they prepare and fine tune for this do or die championship game.
