Intermediate hurlers play Killeagh in first game last Sunday.

Our hurlers had their first outing with a challenge game versus Killeagh away on Sunday morning and although we did concede a few easy scores early on including goals we tidied up as the game went on and had a reasonably good outing. Killeagh were that bit sharper and had already played a few games. We played three twenty-five-minute periods which helps get both hurling and fitness into mind and body. It was good to see some of the young players really doing well including James Kearney who banged in two beauties of goals. Ger Scully refereed the game and did a good job.

Team panel: - Eoin O Neill, Brian Carroll, Colm Barry, Liam Moroney, Tom Carroll, Declan Varner, Colm O Neill, Eoin Maye, Alan Fenton, Brian O Donovan, Shane Moroney, David Morrison, Ian Riordan, Anthony Spillane, Michael Spillane. Subs: - James Kearney, Jack Kenny, Peter Roche, Richard Morrison, Mark Spillane, Conor McCarthy, Andrew O Neill and Ciarán McGann.

The following were not available for various reasons: - Aidan O Sullivan, Colm Spillane, Niall O Leary, Jamie O Leary, Keith O Leary, Cian O Leary, Robbie Feeney, Ronan Fenton, Ronan O Regan, Eoin Barry and Jack Barry and all these lads are good championship hurlers.

Darragh Lawlor a good clubman and had a great 2018 season has taken a time out and hit for the ‘Homeland’. Now Darragh is not gone into the film scene but is setting down in Boston, USA for a while and being an American citizen, he has lined up a good number. We wish him the very best no doubt he will make it 2020 for Castlelyons again.

East Cork Football Leagues on 9th and 10th February 2019

We are away to Bride Rovers on the week end of the 9th and 10th February in East Cork junior football league. As I said last week hard to get better than a local in a derby to test physicality and moral courage especially with the big ball. Now football in Cork may not be the popular game now as we seem light years away from the halcyon of Cork winning All Irelands and lording it under Billy Morgan. However, please play the league games as there is no point in throwing away hard earned money for not playing league games like last year so ar aghaid líbh.

Hurling Challenge on Saturday 9th February 2019 at 6.30pm

The hurler travel to play Ballyduff in a challenge on this Saturday at 6.30pm. It’s interesting with five of the lads stepping it out in Strictly workshop for a few hours earlier that day. So be careful boys and have the hoofs well shod as you can go from hard to soft in breaking new ground.

All Ireland Gold and Silver Medals for St Nicks Athletes in Cross Country.

Heartiest congratulations to Caoimhe Grey Walsh on winning the Under 11 Gold individual medal and a Cork team gold medal in the All-Ireland B Cross Country Championships in Dundalk on Sunday last. Also, what an achievement for Donal O Brien who won and All Ireland silver medal at the same event last Sunday as a member of the Cork Over 65 team. Both Caoimhe and Donal are, of course, members of the St Nicholas Club in Castlelyons. This is major honors for both Caoimhe starting out on her career and for Donal moving towards the twilight of an outstanding career of effort, example and so helpful to fellow athletes in the St Nicks Club. What an honor for St Nicks who are doing such great work in Castlelyons. Tá comhghairdeas tuillte acu ar fad.

Cheltenham Preview Night.

Our Cisteoir Dona Barry and some horsey patrons are organising a Cheltenham Preview Night for the Pedlars Rock Bar on Friday 22nd February, 2019.  There will be a raffle and auction on the night and it promises to be lively. Tickets are €10 and there will be a more complete programme shortly as he is putting together a top class local panel.

Congrats to Shane O Neill.

Congrats and well done to Shane O Neill, Castlelyons Juvenile Coaching Officer who received a silver bench award for his work.  Shane was among 100 from about the county who received awards.  It is an indication that Cork are going in the right direction.  This is especially good for Castlelyons club for those involved and most of all a tribute to the work of Shane himself.

Launch of Strictly Castlelyons on Friday 15th February 2019

The official launch of Strictly Castlelyons will be held in the Centre on Friday 15th February at 7.30pm. This will involve the announcement of those dancing and the specific pairing of the dancers and their sponsors. Indeed, the couples will walk the line for the first time as this launch is a red-carpet event. These dancers are made up of local volunteers representing various organisations and will receive professional training for seven weeks leading up to the event. The excitement is really building up already as the local chat is on girls and boys who include some fit and cheery characters with a potential to bring so different styles to the floor in entertainment, musicality, body movements and lifts. Strictly Castlelyons are really delighted to have secured local Castlelyons man Brian O Sullivan, major entrepreneur and Managing Director of ZEUS who has come on board as our main Sponsor. The Launch has the ingredients of an enchanting evening in Castlelyons there is a céad míle fáilte to all with some refreshments. So, soak up the craic and atmosphere by arriving early to take your seat and enjoy. See you then
