Honouring Castlelyons - East Cork Champions of 1993 2018-09-08 21:02:00

The East Cork JHC Final of 1993 between Castlelyons and Killeagh was played on a beautiful day on 29th August day 1993 in Watergrasshill before a huge crowd. Killeagh were hot favourites being the form team with a big win over Dungourney in the semi-final. Castlelyons Pipe Band led around the teams and set the scene with the National anthem. John Motherway, referee on the day, threw in the sliotar to a mighty buzz from Castlelyons followers who were all around the ground outnumbering their more favoured opponents. We showed fierce fire from the start and when John Quirke banged in an early goal a shock was on the cards and sure enough we went on to record a memorable victory 2-11 to 1-9.

Twenty-five years on the lads will be honoured at the East Cork Final tomorrow Sunday 9th September i in Castlemartyr.
