Castlelyons GAA Notes WE 11.1.21. 2021-01-13 20:33:00

Castlelyons Team Managements appointed for 2021.

Hurling Management.

Well, there was a quiet post season with socialising and travel curtailed over the Christmas and New Year.  So now for the preseason we are in our own bubble again with no ‘gatherings’ so please you can’t go down to the sea today or wander to far away.  The Club are working away in the background and have appointed a management outfit for the Intermediate team for 2021.  Ciarán McGann is Bainisteoir, Johnny Crowley, Coach, Peter Murphy and Sean Kenny Selectors, John Healy, Physio and Brendan Hoare, Stats. The team and same management had a great season last year just failing at the final hurdle.  However, second year can be tough and there are so many teams trying to make the breakthrough in the PIHC.  Also, it is impossible to make plans in present pandemic only to hope and pray for good health and wellbeing.  There are no plans for any training to date and remember we can only beat the current pandemic by working together and trusting the guidelines.  However, when normality returns hopefully in the second half of the year the lads will give it holly, or is it ash, and we wish them luck.

Football Management.

The footballers and hurlers are basically the same panel, so the hurling management have taken up this task for the coming year.  The Club did not participate in rescheduled junior football championship in East Cork last season as it was too close to the hurling championship.  However, we have a potentially strong panel and should be well up for the task.  Also. Mick Spillane who has taken up as club treasurer was a stalwart in both codes in his day and midfielder on the last Imokilly football team to land the senior county back in 1986.  That was a star-studded outfit and I see Conor Counihan, the current Cork football coordinator was on that team too so no doubt he will be linking in with Mick to kick more big ball in Castlelyons.

Other Teams Managements

Colm Barry is doing the U21 teams and will announce his selectors later. We are thankful to Colm to give his time as he is on of our star players and a holder of three county senior medals at full back with Imokilly.  John McCarthy and Michael O Donovan are taking care of Junior B hurling.  The Club may enter a junior C hurling team for the first time.  This is to facilitate a number of young players in transition from minor level to adult as the minor age has change down to under 17 this year. So, trusting that we can resume play later in the year there will be game time for all.

Coolagown Development Group hit the Jackpot.

The enhancement of Coolagown is continous and so effective.  This time Coolagown Development Group have been awarded €165,000 under the 2020 Standard Town & Village Renewal Scheme.  They are extremely grateful to Fermoy Municipal Authority, Pauline Moriarty, Brendan O’Gorman, and Cork County Council for their extensive support in achieving such financial support. Coolagown's Project seeks to rebalance the traffic functions of the village, enhance the public realm by improving local pedestrian accessibility, lower vehicular speeds and to create a village centre. The details of the Project will be available to residents at a later date.  Other villages in Cork to benefit from this financial assistance were Liscarroll €160,000, Killeagh €54,000, Kanturk €162,000 and Leap €85,000.  Congratulations to the Coolagown Development Group. They certainly deserve their financial assistance as they strive to continually enhance the village and surrounding areas for their residents and visitors.  Of course, there could in time be a major spin off here for our Club as more people may come to live about the lovely village of Coolagown and this could eventually boost our numbers.  Keep up the good work all.
