Coláiste an Craoibhín hurlers advance 

Coláiste an Craoibhín are after recording some great wins great win in the Corn Sheain Uí hAnragain as they defeated Coláiste na Trócaire, Rathkeale 2-9 to 1-11 and Douglas Community School 2-13 to 2-12. Their next outing is on the 5th December versus the winners of Crescent College Dooradoyle or Scoil Pól Kilfinnane. Our own man Conor McCarthy is doing very well at full back. Shane Roche from Knockanore a former Waterford minor, under 21 and senior hurler and, of course UCC, is training the team as he is now teaching business and geography at Coláiste Craoibhín.

St Colman’s College had their third win in the Harty Cup last Wednesday and now head for the quarter finals. They looked very good against last year’s champions Árdscoil Rís, Limerick in a 2-19 to 1-15 win. Castlelyons men did well with James Kearney banging in an early goal, David Morrison registered a point while Leo Doocey came on as a half time substitute.

Niall O Leary and Colm Spillane pick up Cork All-Star Hurling Awards for 2018.

Niall O Leary and Colm Spillane, Castlelyons and Imokilly are two of eight Imokilly men on the Reardans Senior Hurling All Stars announced this week. The others are Ciarán O Brien, St Ita’s, Bill Cooper, Youghal, Mark O Keeffe, Fr O Neill’s, Seamus Harnedy, St Ita’s, Will Leahy, Aghada and Paudie O Sullivan, Cloyne. This is the second award for Niall O Leary who was at centre back on both winning teams of 2017 and 2018. Niall has already received a Bórd Gáis Energy Under 21 Hurling all-star for 2018 while Colm received a senior hurling all-star nomination. Comhghairdeas go léir.

Michael Buckley awarded with All Ireland Scholarship.

Michael Buckley, a member of our Under 21 teams was among those awarded All Ireland Scholarship at the University of Limerick recently. This is a most prestigious scholarship sponsored by billionaire philanthropist J P McManus and is awarded to high achievers. Michael is currently studying Economics in UCD. This scholarship will facilitate Michael build on his success to date and continue to strive for excellence in his ongoing studies and future career. We offer our heartiest congratulations to Michael and wish him well in the future as he is a credit to his family, schools and teachers. Comhghairdeas agus go n-éirí leat a Mhichíl.

Incidentally, the guest speaker at the Awards was Limerick senior hurling manager John Kiely who was a former student at University College Limerick. John is a school principal at Abbey CBS in Thurles and gave an outstanding address to the students. A fair operator in academia himself he watched four of his own students achieve the scholarships.

Castlelyons GAA AGM this Friday 30th November 2018 at 8pm.

Our Annual General Meeting will be held on this Friday 30th November 2018 at 8pm in the Club Bar. Our Officers will give an account of their stewardship for the past year. Tentative plans for 2019 will be discussed and set down. A new executive will be elected. Motions and resolutions will be discussed and voted upon if necessary. Our Chairman Con Lawlor has made a big rallying call for new members at executive level as there are positions to be filled in administration, finance, public relations, team managements. Folks this is the single most important meeting of the year and as it says in the add every little helps agus is fearr obair ná caint and Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Caisleán Uí Liatháin need your support so see you there.

Lotto Results.

The results of the week’s Lotto Draw held on Monday 26th November in the Clubhouse Bar. The Numbers drawn were 4, 9, 12 and 14. There was no winner of the Lotto Jackpot of €13,800. The eight Lucky Dip Winners of €20 each were: - Angela O Regan, Sarah Hegarty, John Molloy, Siobhan Shanahan, Jamie O Leary, Sean Barry, Lex and Sean and Edmund Roche.

Next week’s Lotto will be held on this Monday the 3rd December in the Abbey Bar at 9.30.pm. The Jackpot is now €14, 000. We would ask all patrons and especially those in the Adult, Juvenile and Camogie Clubs to support our Club Lotto. East Cork Divisional AGM.

The Annual General Meeting of the East Cork Division will be held in Ballynoe on Wednesday night 5th December at 8pm. All outgoing Officers have been returned unopposed. There are several Motions for consideration which no doubt will encourage some lively debate.

The latest big news is that there will be a Castlelyons Strictly held in 2019. The date is Friday 17th May 2019.
A lot of planning going on but no big revelations to date. We have all been asked to hold the date and we will hear more later.
