Castlelyons GAA Notes WE 12.2.18. 2018-02-14 18:40:00

Castlelyons GAA Notes week ended 12th February 2018.

Football League game called off last Sunday.

Our football league game versus Midleton was called off due to adverse weather conditions last Sunday. This was the same story in many places including county games. The games versus Midleton will be played later and hopefully fixtures will not pile up. Our next game is on Friday 16th February at 8 pm in the East Cork JFL Division 2 versus Dungourney in Castlelyons. The pitch is in good order despite the bad weather and the game will be on. The opening games of the U21 football championships are fixed for Saturday 24th February at 3 pm. Draws will be made shortly as there were some discussions on gradings that require a tidy up.

Intermediate Hurlers appoint new Captain.

Aidan O Sullivan has been appointed captain of our Intermediate hurling team for the coming season. Aidan is one of our stalwarts for a few years now and a member of Imokilly senior hurling team for a few years too. Aidan won a county senior hurling medal with Imokilly in 2017 when the divisional side defeated Blackrock in the new Páirc Uí Chaoimh. Darragh Lawlor another committed man is appointed vice captain. We wish the lads and our hurlers the best for 2018.

Congrats to Donal O Brien.

The bad weather last Sunday did not deter the Cork Masters Cross Country team last Sunday as they won the Athletics Ireland National Master Cross Country Final in Clarinbridge, Co. Galway. Our own Donal O Brien was selected as part of the squad and ran a mighty race. This is a tremendous honour for the St Nicholas clubman as he is always helpful in training and an inspiration to so many who have taken up running in Castlelyons. Congratulations again Donal from Castlelyons GAA.

Knockanard Point to Point Races now on Saturday 17.2.18

Knockanard Point to Point Races fell casualty on Sunday morning last due to the terrible weather and an early inspection by the Turf Club. However, the Races are now going ahead on Saturday 17.2.18 and Castlelyons GAA will host a Refreshment Tent. Don’t forget to give some assistance if you are on the committee and avail of the refreshments if you are a patron. The Race Committee are working hard too and are hoping for a good number of entries so for an enjoyable afternoon come to Knockanard.
